Woodbury Down Community Pavilion

In September 2025, a temporary pavilion was installed at the Woodberry Down Estate in Hackney as part of the annual Hidden River Festival. The pavilion hosted a programme of community events and workshops celebrating the estate and its surrounding waterways.

The structure was co-designed by RC/YYC in collaboration with young people from the estate.

Andy supported the project during the design development phase, delivering a structural engineering workshop for participants and providing the structural design for the pavilion. The scheme uses a lightweight timber frame with split columns and simple bolted connections for easy assembly and disassembly, along with adjustable base connections to accommodate uneven ground.

During the festival, Simple Works returned to deliver another hands-on engineering workshop, using the completed pavilion as a learning tool for young residents.
