The Priory Centre is an existing building situated on the banks of the River Great Ouse in St Neots. The works include strengthening the existing building to support new proposals such as internal and external balconies, new stage equipment and additional rooms to both sides of the building. The proposal also includes replacing the existing single-storey office space with a modern two-storey extension which will house local council offices.
The design preserves the original structure wherever possible, prioritising sustainable building practices and incorporating carbon-negative materials. The site’s unique conditions require detailed planning, with ongoing ground investigations to reveal the existing structure ensuring stability and safety. Flood risks and nearby historical features are important factors shaping the development and The Priory Centre’s transformation sets a high standard for eco-friendly, adaptable community spaces that serve both current needs and future growth.
