We’ve been working with LifeLine Church and Assemble to adapt and re-use an inter-war warehouse on the Becontree Estate in Dagenham, transforming it into a vibrant new community centre. LifeLine has been rooted in the area since the 1970s, and this new space helps support their growing work alongside local charities, Community Resources and LifeLine Projects.
Our approach to the structure has focused on retaining and celebrating the character of the original structure - from the elegant steel trusses in the main hall to the unusual framing in the old print shop. By working closely with the design team lead by Assemble we’ve developed low-energy environmental and acoustic strategies that support flexible, comfortable use of the space, securing it's use for generations to come.
