Set in the South Downs National Park, this project reimagined three disused agricultural buildings to create much-needed family homes. The ambition from the outset was to reuse 100% of the existing materials on site—ideally without even moving them.
Working with Site Office and a forward-thinking client, we explored how the existing barns could form the structures of new homes, supplemented by timber from the client’s farm and stone from nearby quarries. The strategy extended beyond materials. We considered sheep’s wool for insulation, landscape-led food production, active travel, and reducing energy demand through high-performing buildings and on-site renewables.
The result is a holistic approach that enables the buildings to contribute positively to their landscape and local community.
