Exploring circular materials and collaborative design through an experimental public pavilion built using coffee-waste bricks.
We’ve been supporting Studio Egret West in the delivery of the BREW HOUSE pavilion for this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week which opens tomorrow!
The project explores how small-scale public installations can become a testing ground for new materials, collaborative working and hands-on public engagement. As structural engineers for the pavilion, we helped develop a structure built using Brew Bricks - an experimental brick incorporating waste coffee grounds into the manufacturing process.
The pavilion demonstrates how familiar waste materials can be reconsidered as part of the construction process, while also creating an engaging and accessible installation within the festival programme.
Collaborators on the project include York Handmade Brick Company, 15grams and Surface Matter.
The pavilion is on display during Clerkenwell Design Week.
